  • • 1960’s VINYL FEATURE • Adam from @TheHowlersUK has provided us with a piece about his most influential vinyl from the 60s...⠀ ⠀ LP: The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed (1969)⠀ ⠀ "’Let It Bleed’ was one of the first LP's I purchased and listened through from start to finish. Sadly my 60's version was tossed out a window during a knees up... don't ask why! I actually always start with Side 2 when giving this record a spin. There is not one single track on Side 2 that doesn't interest or excite me in terms of what's going on musically. Tracks such as 'You Got The Silver' are just straight Dylan inspired.⠀ ⠀ I can distinctly remember when I heard the opening keys on 'Monkey Man' for the first time. At the age of 16, I had just started getting into the Stones and a good friend of mine said give 'Let It Bleed' a listen. To be honest, in my ignorance, I didn’t bother. ⠀ ⠀ I burned tracks my Uncle had sent me on CD to my iPod and it was then I happened to give it a run through one day. When driving my old Vespa T5 to and from college or work, I used to pop a single headphone in underneath my jacket and helmet and listen to tunes, come rain or shine. I still remember when I first heard the track; it was a proper grim day and I was sat at a traffic light all alone with my engine ticking over waiting for the light to change.⠀ ⠀ The piano and sleazy bassline at the start of ‘Monkey Man’ began and it was like something out of a film; my own personal soundtrack, driving my scooter around the South Downs in the pissing rain. I have never forgotten that moment when I was freezing my arse off, soaking wet through and had heard my first track from ‘Let It Bleed’. ⠀ ⠀ Needless to say, when I got to where I was going, I clicked back through the previous tracks trying to find this one song I had heard 15 minutes earlier. Sure enough it was a Stones track from the album I had been told to give a spin!
